Myrafell - Flateyri - Illugastadir

Here we are in Myrafell, where the terrain offers us a superb panorama of the Dýrafjörður fjord

Flateyri

Here we are in Flateyri, a large town of 237 inhabitants!

Photo on the left, a reminder of the avalanche that killed 20 people in 1995. Since then, a dam has been built to protect the village.
Photo on the right, a whale bone, a souvenir from the 19th century when Flateyri still hunted the mammal.

The Vestfjarðagöng tunnel.
Approximately 6 kilometers long, this tunnel allows us to reach the town of Ísafjörður. Built in 1996, it allows choosing between two different exits (Ísafjörður or Suðureyri) thanks to its Y-shape.

So here we are at the Ísafjörður campsite where we will spend the night. And tonight it's "Kjötbollur í brúnni sósu" !!! In French, "Meatballs in brown sauce".... With a title like that, the manufacturer takes no risks with the content of the product...

We take road 61 which runs along the entire coast of the large Ísafjarðardjúp fjord.

After the coast, we cross the snowy plateau of Steingrímsfjarðarheiði

And here we are in Hólmavík, a small port town on the Steingrímsfjörður fjord

On this same road, not far from the village of Hvammstangi, the pretty Skarð lighthouse adds its artistic touch to the landscape.

And that's it, we are definitively leaving the entire region of the great Icelandic fjords of the northwest to visit the north of Iceland

Blönduós

We will spend the night in Varmahlíð, but first we make a short stop in Blönduós where greylag geese take their evening stroll
