Ronda, Algatocin and Gaucin

Ronda

This morning we leave Malaga permanently and join about a hundred kilometers away, the city suspended between two cliffs: Ronda.

Ronda

One of the most famous images of Ronda, with its houses reaching the edge of the cliffs of the "El Tajo" canyon where the Guadelevín river flows.

Ronda is at the end of a plateau raised by 200 meters. The river cuts this plateau for 500 meters long forming an impressive gorge spanned by the New Bridge (on the right in the photo).

Of the city's three bridges, the new bridge is the youngest. It was completed in 1793.

Let's go back up to the city.

The historic city is fortified. On the west side, the city is protected by the height of the cliffs. On the east side, a wall does the job.

To the left, the third bridge of the city, much more modest.

Algatocín

We do not stay in Ronda and continue our route towards the coast 70 kilometers south. We pass through small villages with white houses that line the pretty hilly roads crossing the territory of the Serranía de Ronda. So here we are in the small village of Algatocín.

Gaucin

Stop now in Gaucín where the Sun begins to set.

GaucínGaucín

The Gaucín cemetery where as often in Latin countries, the graves are not in the ground but stacked above the ground in the form of small compartments.

And between the walls, the small mountains are covered with a pretty misty coat, colored as it should be by a setting sun.

A few more kilometers to reach La Duquesa which will just serve as a stopover town to spend the night before joining a new country: Gibraltar!!!...
