Cerro Cahui Biotope
In El Remate, there's not much to do except walk around. This small town is mainly one of the closest points to Tikal, the great Mayan archaeological site, a must-see in the country. But for today, the day will be quiet, especially with a short walk in the Cerro Cahui biotope.
No reptile will show its nose, even if they are surely not far. A much friendlier caterpillar of Smerinthus ophthalmica will just as well catch my eye...
We had sailed on it in Flores, a week ago at its western end. We are now at its eastern end. Here is the immense Lake Petén Itzá.
And charming reunions with this Geoffroy's spider monkey (Ateles Ateles geoffroyi), undoubtedly less wild than those we encountered deep in the tropical forest of El Mirador...
El Remate
The Monte Hermon church is in full service. The Catholic religion has given way over the decades to evangelicals. The latter now represent 80% of the country's religions, whereas they were only 5% a few decades ago...
