Petite Anse d'Arlet
Fort-de-France
Here we are disembarked in Fort-de-France where the rain preceded our arrival. In the distance, the Saint-Louis cathedral erected in 1891.
But, hey, it's weird, we meet more and more people oddly costumed... Oh but yes! We are February 12, the day before Mardi Gras! Which means we are in the middle of carnival!
"The Carnival of Martinique takes place from Saturday to Wednesday of the fat days week preceding Lent; notably Fat Saturday (presentation of the carnival queens), Fat Monday (parade of burlesque weddings costumed in drag), Fat Tuesday (parade of red devils costumed in red) and Ash Wednesday (parades in black and white, death of Vaval)." © Wikipedia
We are on Fat Monday, the parade is therefore traditionally on the theme of the burlesque wedding where men cross-dress!
"The bradjaks: these are old cars loaded with carnival-goers, decorated with a topical theme." © Wikipedia
The end of the day will be devoted to collecting a small rental car booked the same afternoon. It will thus be easier for us to move around for our last day. Heading therefore to the airport to pick up the machine, then we reach our accommodation in Petite Anse d'Arlet an hour's drive from Fort de France.;
