This last day in Ushuaia will be by boat because we are going to sail on the Beagle Channel to see the sea lions!

It is 10 o'clock and we are on time for boarding with 4 other tourists.

The Yerba mate

The pilot takes us while drinking his yerba mate, very common in Argentina!

Yerba mate

(photo internet)

"The plant used, yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis), sometimes called "Paraguay tea", "Jesuit tea" or "Brazilian tea", is a South American species of the genus Ilex (like hollies) and whose leaves, which are roasted and pulverized, provide, infused in hot water, a stimulating drink, with effects similar to those of coffee or tea." © Wikipedia

During the 20 minutes of navigation, the guide takes great care of us with explanations in Spanish-English!

The sea lions

Finally we arrive in front of this small colony of sea lions perched on its rocky islet.
A priori it's nap time! Unless they are hard at work......
Anyway, most ignore us, apart from a few curious ones who take a look at these weird humans...

Sea lions are also called "maned seal" (Otaria flavescens). We can clearly distinguish this mane in the photo on the right with the huge male watching over the whole troop.

The cormorants

Further on another islet, cormorants build their nests.

The lighthouse "Les éclaireurs"

This name was given to this archipelago of small islands by the French captain Luis Fernando Martial during the expedition "La Romanche" in 1882.

Twigs in the beak, this cormorant must find its nest... Easy or not easy ???

We make a small stopover on an island to see the local flora more closely.

After picking up our new rental car, we find this small hostel where we have our own kitchen. The opportunity for Rico to make us pasta carbonara!
