Padre Ramos Natural Reserve

Basilica de la Asuncion de León

Today, we leave León but before, return to the basilica of the city, notably to go walk on its roof. The monument was inscribed on the UNESCO heritage list in 2011.

We are in the belfry where cables and weights will ring the bells.

And here we are on the roof, completely white and made up of lots of small domes. You have to leave your shoes at the door to be able to walk around the domes.

These two huge statues support the beam where a bell is usually suspended. On the north side, we also find the same statues, but this time, the bell is still there.

There, I think I have all my fill of photos on this roof! We will be able to hit the road to go up to the north of the country and join our next Airbnb in the small village of Aposentillo.

And hop, 80 kilometers and two hours of car later, here we are in our little "surfer's chalet" directly overlooking the Pacific.

It's high tide and the beach is reduced to its minimum.

The Estero Padre Ramos Natural Reserve

Once the luggage taken down, we take the road again to join the nature reserve of Padre Ramos. We make a small stop first for lunch at the Jiquilillo Beach restaurant.

20 minutes after dessert, here we are at Padre Ramos located at the very south of the nature reserve. It was declared a protected area in 1983. The estuary that composes it gathers several lagoons and coves, dominated by vast expanses of mangroves.

Arfff, we preferred not to see him there... It's a white-faced capuchin (Cebus imitator).

Return to our accommodation. The kitchen is on the ground floor, but we don't use it, because we bought on the side of the road, a kind of burritos, meat and vegetables rolled in a corn tortilla. The day was quiet and relaxing and it's not a bad thing! Tomorrow, we resume our visits to Nicaraguan volcanoes with the Cosigüina!
