Yogyakarta
Strolling day in Yogyakarta where we have been staying for 3 days.
On the program, visit of Taman Sari (former Sultan's pavilion) and the bird market...
The Taman Sari
A wall surrounds the Taman Sari residence.
A gang of kids squatting in the abandoned neighboring building.
The Taman Sari or water castle was one of the Sultan's outbuildings where he could come to relax with his wife and concubines and enjoy his private pools...
Another courtyard and one of the Sultan's bedrooms where the bed is heated by embers slipped underneath...
We negotiate a cheap "becak" to get to the bird market. These 3-wheeled rickshaws abound in the streets of Yogya, they make tourists and locals happy!... for those who are not afraid of grazing a motor vehicle...
Filmed demonstration of the "becak"!
By the way, you will hear the call to prayer.
Indonesia is the largest Muslim country in the world.
Pasar Ngasem, the bird market of Yogyakarta
On the other side of the street, the plant and fish market
Right, jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus)
On the roof terrace of a café.
(where incidentally I was left to fall asleep all alone on this central table... for the greatest amusement of local customers... Thanks friends...)
